Through the influence of literature, individuals write their own stories on public sites to create their own state of imagination. On sites like Wattpad, individuals can post their own stories. The authors are then inspiring the readers to create a new imagination and inspire them to write works of their own. This culture only expands new forms of popular culture. Duplicity, on Wattpad, inspired readers during the quarantine to try different fashion, find comfort in mental health, create edits, and enter a fantasy world of thrill that feels like one is experiencing it. Authors have developed imagination to be personal to individuals over time. “Imagination, [is] the evolving theory which looms large in virtually all the disciplines (Bruhn, 543).” There are patterns in society that are shared through characteristics, social movements and expressions that are decoded through literature (Albrecht, 427). Popular culture can inspire individuals to change their behaviour (Gautheir, 2022), and books become this sense of identity that motivates change. In popular culture, those who did not want to identify with a singular set of roles, decided to create their own conceptuality of culture to express themselves (Gauthier). This continues to happen in the present day, as individuals create groups to figure out where they belong. This culture can be used as a tool to understand how individuals see the world.
Literature is an influencing change that creates a more equitable society. When a character is gay, confident, a person of colour, struggling with gender, or someone who lives with a certain illness, this allows an individual to recognize themselves in the text, and consciously recognize their potential. This directly affects popular culture, forming a new elite group that others can join and share the same pleasure. This state can even be achieved by romanticizing the identities in the book to be reflective personally. This builds confidence that allows someone to represent an influence in art towards themselves. This can be considered romantic appropriation, “for literature and life to be pivotal for understanding art (Mitchell, 132).” This becomes a hypothesis that, “reflects society” and how, “literature influences or ‘shapes’ society,” (Albrecht, 425). Literature increases imagination and if not, creates a new conception that allows individuals to claim their best selves. Mass media allows for individuals to express their interests and further this talent.
After not posting on Wattpad for months, the author @happydays1d posted this trailer on twitter and everyone saw the post within seconds. Countdowns and edits were made, and theories were being posted online in pure excitement.
